Soda maker: water isn’t fizzing properly / not carbonating right – what to do?

A normal carbonation cycle takes 2 to 4 seconds until the auto-stop kicks in. Press the button twice fully and hold each press until the venting sound – with a short pause of about 3 seconds in between. After that, your water should be well carbonated.

If your water still isn’t fizzing properly, please check the following 4 points – this fixes most cases in under 2 minutes:

1. Is the carbonation nozzle seated tight?

A loose nozzle is the most common cause. Check by hand that the nozzle at the front of the device is firmly screwed in.

2. Is the CO2 cylinder properly screwed in?

A cylinder that isn’t fully screwed in causes similar problems:

  1. Unscrew the cylinder.
  2. Turn the soda maker upside down and check whether there’s water around the inside thread.
  3. If yes: dry the area thoroughly with a cloth.
  4. Screw the cylinder back in tight (hand-tight).

Note: Both a loose nozzle and a cylinder that isn’t seated tight can cause a loud whistling sound during carbonation. The water is then usually only lightly carbonated and the cylinder runs out unusually fast.

3. Is the bottle filled correctly?

Fill the bottle only up to the fill line – when in doubt, slightly less. An overfilled bottle absorbs less CO2 and can cause water to enter the device.

4. Is your CO2 cylinder full enough?

Check whether your CO2 cylinder is empty. If you have a second cylinder on hand, test the device with it to rule out an empty cylinder as the cause.

Still no luck?
